B.A., Magna Cum Laude, in Mathematics, Case Western Reserve University.
Master of Architecture, Washington University.

Professional Registration:

Registered Architect in Missouri and Massachusetts.
Certified by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.

Continuing Education:

Understanding the importance of staying on the leading edge of the profession, Mr. Polanik frequently attends local and national workshops and conferences. Recent topics have included sustainable development, building integrated photovoltaics, advanced building science, indoor air quality, and the LEED Green Building Rating System.

Service:

Mr. Polanik is a Member of the American Institute of Architects, was a founding member of the AIA St. Louis Environment Committee, and served as Co-Chair of the Committee for 8 years. He was trained as a volunteer post-earthquake building safety inspector for the Missouri State Emergency Management Agency. Mr. Polanik was also a founding member of the Missouri Gateway Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, and served on their Green Homes Advocacy Subcommittee.
Mr. Polanik served on the Board of Trustees of Sustainable St. Louis, and on the Board of the Szczecin - St. Louis Sister Cities organization. He has served as a visiting critic at the Washington University School of Architecture, as the local facilitator for AIA workshops on Sustainable Design, has appeared on local radio to promote sustainable development, and has taught workshops on green building. Mr. Polanik has also contributed to articles on environmentally appropriate design in The Missouri Conservationist and in The Construction News Report.

Awards:

While at Washington University, Mr. Polanik was awarded the Frederick Widmann Prize in Architecture. He received the 1995 President's Award for service to the St. Louis Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, and has earned honorable mention awards in the Laclede's Landing Urban Design Competition and the AIA Photo Contest.
